ABOUT THIS PROJECT
The Buell XB series of motorcycles equipped with Harley Davidson engines reached the peak of their development with the 2008 models and remained unchanged until Buell ceased operations in 2010 marking the end of an historic 27-year run. The 2008 XB12X Ulysses was the Adventure version of the XB line up. Featuring a 1200cc V-Twin engine, premium Showa suspension and Buell’s mass centralized X-Frame the Ulysses was ready for the ride of a lifetime. Since this motorcycle had a high spec performance level from the factory the modifications that were performed were strictly related to comfort and convenience. The stock windscreen is non-adjustable so to better control airflow over the rider and passenger a set of Madstad Engineering adjustable windscreen brackets were mounted on the factory flyscreen. We installed a Laminar Lip on the stock windscreen then installed the windscreen on the adjustable brackets, which provided plenty of vertical adjustment to smooth out just about any kind of wind buffeting. Another comfort item we installed was a set of Touratech adventure foot pegs. With an aggressive contact surface to prevent slippage and being twice as wide as the stock foot pegs they provided all day comfort and safety. To increase equipment protection we installed a Touratech headlamp guard. The original headlamp grille looked great but offered virtually no damage protection to the headlamps especially in off-road conditions. Since this is an Adventure bike cargo carrying capacity needed to be increased. With that in mind we installed a set of factory saddlebags. These were really a nice addition to the bike as there was room for a full face helmet and a full riding suit. No more walking around carrying a jacket, riding pants, liner, gloves and helmet. The more they were used the more they became appreciated. Lastly, since this motorcycle could be subject to parking on uneven surfaces, we installed a Touratech kickstand footer, which more than doubles the footprint of the standard kickstand preventing a tip over on soft ground. The footer also doubles as a tire bead breaker if a tire change or flat repair becomes necessary when out in the backcountry. The end result was a great, comfortable motorcycle ready to ride anywhere!
